F.A.Q.

Q. What is the primary function of motor oil?

A. The primary function of motor oil is to provide lubrication between moving parts in the engine. Any metal-to-metal contact will lead to high levels of friction; wear and heat can result in engine damage.

Q. What type of motor oil is best for my engine?

A. The type specified in your owner's manual by the vehicle manufacturer is best for your engine. For most U.S., European and Japanese passenger car and light-truck engines today, it's a motor oil that meets the latest American Petroleum Institute (API) rating, the Ilsac energy-conserving performance standard, or European specifications. It provides the ultimate protection and all-around performance during the drain interval recommended by your vehicle manual.

Q. Why should I change my oil every 3,000 miles?

A. Most manufacturers refer to service in the terms of "Normal" or "Severe" driving conditions. Severe driving are defined as: driving less than 5 miles per trip, driving in temperatures above 90 degrees farenheight, extensive idling, towing a trailer, dusty conditions, or long periods of stop and go driving on muddy, dirty or de-iced roads. West Texas and Phoenix, Arizona are definitely considered "Severe Services." When you operate in "Severe Service" conditions, most manufacturers recommend an oil change every 3,000 miles. Please refer to the "Severe Service" appendix in your vehicle's owner manual.
