Shredding

About Us

Shredding Services of Texas, Inc. started in 1997 to provide businesses and individuals in Abilene and surrounding areas an inexpensive way to destroy confidential waste. Rick Spalding owns and operates the company and has lived here for decades. The biggest difference between SST and the others is security. Our shred truck makes tiny particles using an Ultrashred hammermill. Most of the others use the "pierce and tear" shredders that can allow big chunks to pass through intact. They then drive these chunks for at least 100 miles before baling for recycling. Some competitors don't even shred at all before they get on the road to the next town. Another big difference is that you can bring your papers to us for destruction. We have had folks bring as little as five pounds and as much as 14 pallets full. We are local.

F.A.Q.

Q. Where are you located?

A. There is an unpaved road that starts between The Monogrammer and Atlas Machine on the south end of Treadaway. That road is McGee, and we are at 1250 McGee.

Q. What do we need to do to get our stuff ready to shred?

A. The easiest thing for us is loose paper, but we hardly ever get that. To keep our recyclers happy, we try to pull out any plastic and "unbleachable" items. Something like the back of a legal pad or the thick dark legal folders.

Q. What about staples and paperclips?

A. They are no problem, and neither are manilla folders or spiral bound notebooks.

Q. What does it cost?

A. If you bring it to us, it is ten cents per pound with a $10 minimum. If we shred on site or retrieve it and bring it to the shop for shredding, it costs 15 cents per pound with a $40 minimum.
